My 1965 Mercedes Unimog Radio Truck
aka "DevMog" or /dev/mog

SOLD: 1965 Unimog 404 radio truck Colorado Springs CO

I'm selling my beloved 1965 404.1 German radio truck. Starts and runs great. It does have the air compressor. I had the clutch replaced about the time I got it. It was recently tuned up. It has the mid-altitude carb jets in it. It also has the shoulder seat belts. Desks, chairs, and most of the electricals (lighting and power distribution panel) are intact inside. It has the Schwingfeuer heater on top, but I've never used it. Includes a new 24V Pierce 12,500LB winch which has never been installed on the vehicle. Overall I would say the mog is in great condition. Interior of the cab and the radio box are in great condition. The convertible top is in rough shape. Includes 2 military antennas. $7500 negotiable.

The odometer lists something like 21k kilometers, but I have no way of knowing how accurate that is.  The odometer itself clicks off the distance accurately, but I don't know how long the existing odometer and engine have been in the vehicle, etc before I got it.  It had about 16k when I got it and that was about 8 years ago.   Mine is ex-German, has the stock engine (M180, 2.2 liter 6-cylinder), 2 axles, there is a little bit of rust in the driver side fender where the door closes.  There is some rust on the swing away door that covers the schwingfeuer heater up top.  The convertible top is in rough shape.  I don't know how old it is.  Overall, the vehicle is in excellent shape, runs well, and had a tuneup about a year ago.  It has always been extremely reliable and doesn't have any reliability problems.  When I had the tuneup done last year (valve adjustment, fluids, engine tuneup) I didn't have the carb rebuilt but I had the carb rebuilt about 5 years ago and haven't put many miles on it.  The fuel lines are clean and the selector valve to switch between tanks is smooth and works well.  It shifts smooth, synchros are in good shape.  The flywheel on the starter has some
tooth wear, so it will occasionally grind when trying to start.  I just release the start button quickly and it works fine the second
time.  It always starts and runs well.  Alternator is in good shape.  I have the Pertronix electronic ignition module in a box, but never
installed it.  It has the H4 halogen headlights installed.  It does have the stock air compressor which works fine.  The clutch was
replaced about 7 years ago.  Remember I have only put about 5k km on it since I got it.

The radio box is in great shape, fairly complete.  It has 2 swivel chairs with seatbelts, the desks and cabinets, desk lamps (I put one of the desk lamps in the cab attached to the roll bar that the 3-point seatbelts attach to, so it works like a dome light). The radio box does not have any of the original radios or the original generator but it does have the battery system, overhead lighting, two
roof hatches, the heater (which I've never used) and 2 antennas.  It also has the rifle racks and one folding chair.  I also added a 24V computer UPS that plugs into the battery box in the radio box and acts as an inverter.  The radio box interior is in excellent condition.  One of the windows is broken (left rear door) because someone threw a rock at it.  It's a flat piece of glass and the rubber gasket is still intact.   The replacement needs to be rectangular with the corners rounded but I haven't replaced it (plexiglass would probably be easiest).  I just put one of the blackout shutters over it.  (It has the blackout shutters and blackout lighting too)

The plastic windows in the convertible top (driver and passenger door) are old and brittle and need to be replaced, but they're just the flexible plastic used in jeeps and such.  Any convertible shop can get you the plastic for them.  I was thinking about replacing them with plexiglass since they don't actually need to flex but I never got around to it.  I have at least one of the spotlights that mount on the bracket on the front fender (which take the same headlight assembly as the headlights) a bunch of extra gas cans (it has racks underneath for 3 fuel cans), the tire chains, a spare rifle rack, one water can (same size as the gas cans but a different color and lined with something).

Here are some pics of mine that are mostly closeup detail shots
because there weren't any good detail shots of unimogs online.

Here are some detail shots inside the radio box.  You can see the
condition it's in
but not what all is in there.  (For an identical unit, see Bob's listed below.)

Here are a bunch of pics under the hood:

I also have a Pierce 12k pound electric winch (24volt) that has never
been used and never installed on the vehicle.

These are some pictures I took of my friend Bob's radio truck before I
got mine.  His came over on the same boat as mine and is what
convinced me to get mine which is identical except for the color.
(Mine is green.)  It was also a sunny day so the pics turned out nice.
